In the News: Bullying
Is bullying an issue in your family? Do you have conversations and waterworks over a bully in your child’s classroom or maybe your children are bullying each other? Are you concerned with what your child is viewing on the internet or how children talk to each other through email and chat rooms? Then this is the session for you!
Family Matters and the RCMP Youth Program are partnering to bring you “Bullies are a Pain in the Brain.” This session is featuring Cyber Cop. Cyber Cop is a presentation that uses power music, a light show, and PowerPoint to teach children the dangers of using the internet and cell phones. His presentation is described as “animated, like a rock show.”
Also providing information is Everett MacPherson from the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board. He will discuss how schools handle bullying. Daisy Coleman from Annapolis Valley Health’s Mental Health Department will be discussing the personal effects of bullying. Constable David Fairfax will be discussing when bullying can be a criminal offence. Rodena Renaud, Youth Program Coordinator, will provide information on bullying that takes place on the internet. I will be doing a quick talk on sibling rivalry and when siblings bully each other. After the presentations, there will be a conversation café, where you can chat with each other and the presenters.
The session is being held at the Nova Scotia Community College in Lawrencetown on March 3, 2011 from 6 pm to 8 pm. There is no charge for this session, thanks to our sponsors of this event. A special thank you to our supporters and sponsors: the Annapolis County Children’s Foundation, the Nova Scotia Community College, and the Lawrencetown and Area Seniors Association. Child care will be available on site.
If you would like more information on this session, please contact Family Matters at 1-800-399-7119.
